Design Brief
This design intends to create packaging for a Chocolate bar inspired by an assigned country. There is a requirement for three different flavors for the Chocolate bars, and each one needs to have a design or modification that communicates the flavor. Also, the chocolate bar design should make a reference to the country or include representative elements. Another critical factor was to consider organic concepts while developing the design.
Research
To have a better understanding of Ghana and its culture, I started looking specifically for colors, iconography, clothing, and vegetation. This research helped me determine the chocolate bars’ flavors (Milk Chocolate, Guava, and Raspberry). Also, the design of the package has been inspired by "Kente Cloth" which is traditional Ghanaian clothing with patterns. The color palette was determined by using colors from the fruits of the selected flavors and the flag.
Design Elements
After researching, I decided to use "Kente Cloth" patterns for my design since it is an important representation of the Ghanian culture, and based the color palette on selected flavors, Milk Chocolate, Guava, and Raspberry, and using variations or different tonalities to make the pattern pop out. The font I decided to choose for the packaging is Futura PT, and variations from the same family since I found it easy to read and aesthetically pleasing.
Problem Solving
The design had to be modified three times in order to adjust some aspects, such as the color order, Typography, and package measurements. First, the modifications on the colors were to blend the pattern into the background. Also, for the second version of the design, it looked like it was making a reference to honey, making a third adjustment necessary. For the third and final redesign, things to point out are the modifications in the colors from the hexagonal pattern, merging the "NET WT" box and logo into a single-centered container, and, finally modifying the measurements to fit the chocolate bar.
